Luxurious Comfort

Avalon’s Paradise 24 certainly adds a level of class I haven’t seen in pontoons and still delivers creature comforts you expect.

Avalon Paradise 24 Elite Captain's Report

Tested By Capt. Bob Smith

Avalon is a new name in the market for the pontoon industry. They are committing themselves to delivering a new, updated and luxurious design to the industry, setting a high bar for others to reach. Their luxurious boats have some of the largest and most unique standard feature lists in the industry, according to them. This model has radial walls, extra high, safe side wall panels with rattle resistant design, Matrix Marine 50 vinyl and custom deluxe carpets like the 28 oz. plush carpet on our test model.

Bow Features

The foredeck on this model included docking lamps for safer approaches to the trailer in the late evening light or approaching the slip after dark. Long benches are on both sides of the bow area and have hinged seats on aluminum frames rather than roto-molded bases. This along with the slight elevated side panels and a rubber mat in the bottom, will likely keep your stored gear much drier since air can circulate from the outside and under it. If you want to stretch out or catch some sun, the ends of the benches have lounger backs for comfort. Longer items like fenders easily store away in the flip up lounger tops.

At the Console

The helm station has a handy pump action faucet with sink in the corner. A push button courtesy light sheds a lot of light on the deck at night for safety. There is a glove box in the side for keeping your wallet and other small gear dry. A space for a carry-on cooler is under the helm pod. Our wide helm station had a very nice burlwood design wheel with tilt adjustment for individual comfort.

Extending the elegant design the instruments and switches were also set in burlwood accents. Our test model was outfitted with a Humminbird Matrix 27 Fishing System to keep a sharp eye on how our trip was progressing, where the bottom was and occasionally where the big fish were hiding. The captain’s chair was a very comfortable plush style with flip up armrests and a backrest that can nearly fold all the way down.

The bimini top is no slouch. One of the crew decided to prove the effectiveness of their design and did about ten pull ups in the center of the front bow on this one. It barely registered his weight and he amazed us with his strength and endurance. I don’t think I can do two pull ups on anything any more. Another light is actually mounted underneath for more overhead lighting at night which should be great for a party on board.

Moving Aft

Stern seating on our test boat included a corner wine station, which really adds a touch of class you don’t expect on a pontoon boat. This one has cut outs for wine bottles, a large wine service bucket and four wine glasses in slots ready for serving your guests on board. When you are ready to stretch out for some sun, there is a sunpad across the back with a bolster around the back edge. A sturdy aluminum flip out swim ladder is off the starboard stern to simplify boarding from the water.

Specs

Avalon’s Paradise 24 has a deck length of 24’0” and a deck width of 8’6”. The logs are also 24’ long and 25” in diameter. This model weighs in at 1,976 lbs. with furniture installed and is rated for up to a 135-hp outboard for power, and can carry up to 2,800 lbs. of people and gear aboard.

Performance

The Paradise 24 cruised at about 12mph turning 3500rpm for a cruising range of 181 miles on a full tank of fuel. Wide-open-throttle registered 24 mph at 6000rpm and a range of 95 miles. Our Yamaha 90-hp four-stroke sipped fuel with only 2.2gph at cruise and 8.2gph at top speed.

Avalon’s Paradise RE 24 certainly adds a level of class I haven’t seen in pontoons and still delivers creature comforts you expect. Be sure and test one and see how you feel about the luxurious accommodations and standard features from this new line of pontoons.
