Doral 245 Sunquest Captain's Report
Tested By Capt. Bob Smith
Doral boats are coming together very well and rival some of the best I have seen. They are working to deliver a boat that leads its competition in fit and finish.
Hull and deck fixtures are 316 grade stainless steel for years of corrosion resistance and use. This includes the gunwale molding, oversized cleats, ski tow eye and other marine hardware. Entering from the stern, you have a nice integrated swim platform and stainless steel three-step swim ladder. The aft sun pad includes a walkthrough for access to the cockpit. Wraparound seating in the stern offers lots of seating for friends and family with tons of storage underneath the seats. Dual bucket seats keep the driver and companion comfortable. Each swivel and slide adjust so you can comfortably view the action forward when underway and to the rear when chatting with everyone at anchor.
The three spoke tilt steering wheel has a sporty feel while the dash is laid out for good view underway. Deluxe gauges have night lights so you can easily monitor systems underway at night. The stereo on board is provided by a deluxe Clarion stereo AM/FM with CD player. A twelve-volt connection is available for charging portable equipment or your cell phone and wood accents add a touch of elegance around the cockpit. She has a nice curved windshield with safety glass and flip-over panel to get to the bow over the changing room. The heavy duty power steering system made handling a snap.
Going into the “cabin”, you have a neat little changing room that adjusts to your needs. A portable toilet can be pulled from under the cockpit sole and the two facing benches on the sides can be turned into sleeping room for the kids. Access to the cabin is from the cockpit or from a matching door in the bow area. Directional cabin lighting lights up the space for evening or night needs.
Bow seating is along both sides and has storage under each. An anchor locker is up front and easy to use. If all this isn’t enough, you can personalize your model with any of 36 options.
The 245 Sunquest is 25’6” length overall with an 8’6” beam. She needs only 19” draft with the outdrive up and 34” with the outdrive down. She weighs in at approximately 4700lbs. and can carry 54 gallons of fuel for a great day of fun on the water. Her hull design comes to a 16-degree deadrise for a dry, sporty ride on the water. For 2005 Doral offers four colors for hull selection; Champagne, Doral Deep Blue, Doral Deep Black and Torch Red. Canvas selections for 2005 include Champagne, Charcoal and Doral Deep Blue.
For some ideas on how she performed look at her sister, the Phazar. Although there will certainly be some differences, the hulls are essentially the same.
If you are looking for a fun family boat that allows for some privacy along the way for changing and bathroom facilities underway, you will find the 245 Sunquest delivers this and much more in its latest model for 2005
