The Five-in-One from Sea-Doo

The 2005 Sea-Doo 3D Premium has a lot to offer with five interchangeable components, each providing a different riding experience. According to the company, the Sea-Doo 3D Premium is the only watercraft to offer many riding experiences in one watercraft. The original the 3D offered three unique modes Vert, Moto, Kart, and this year they added two more: Shoq and Knee. It’s like having a fleet of PWCs in one, making it a whole lot of fun!
Tim McKercher, the marketing manager of Sea-Doo says “It’s like a home video game, when you get tired of playing with one, just change.” When testing the 3D Premium I found it really that easy to switch "experiences" because the handles and levers are well marked and parts fit together smoothly.
This multifunctional PWC accommodates riders of all levels. Although not all “experiences” are for rookies, Sea-Doo has made it as novice-friendly as possible by balancing the weight of the steering column from an adjustable spring to change the tension of the handle in order to suit individual needs.
Five Interchangeable Experiences
Shoq is a stand-up mode that locks the steering column in place, making this experience easier for beginners. Experienced riders will also enjoy Shoq as it provides more leverage, allowing really aggressive turns.
Vert is Sea-Doo's term for a traditional stand-up ride with no seat in place leaving the deck unobstructed and wide open.
Like riding a motorcycle on the water, Moto’s low profile makes aggressive turns very easy.
On a specially molded tray inserted in the rider tray, while in the Knee position the rider feels as though he is on a powered kneeboard. Kart was my favorite experience on the 3D Premium. Sitting so close to the water, it felt like I was traveling 90 mph when my top speed was really around 50. The company advises against wave jumping while in Kart, with a warning sticker on the seat. Landing hard in a seated position could hurt your back according to the company representative.
The 3D premium is a fairly compact PWC, with a length of 107 inches, a width of 44 inches, and a height 36.25 inches. It weighs just 585 pounds, which makes it easy to tow, even behind smaller vehicles. Don’t let the compact style of the 3D fool you, it is very powerful. The 110-hp 782cc Rotax engine is not the biggest in Sea-Doo’s fleet but is more than capable of handling the job at hand. She went from 0 to 30 mph in 3.3 seconds, and reached a top speed of 50.2 mph.
After spending the better part of a day with the Sea-Doo 3D premium, I was impressed. With five different components, each offering an experience truly unique from the others, the five-in-one concept of the 3D provides several options at an affordable price. It is obvious that tons of thought went into this PWC and they did a good job of bringing the concept to life. If you are in the market for something really fun take a look at the 2005 3D Premium from Sea-Doo, it will be worth your time.
