Regal 2000 (2009-)
Regal 2000 (2009-)
If Regal only made great looking boats, then they’d probably starve in this economy. But great looks are only the beginning of what the 2000 bowrider has to offer. These guys never forget that there’s a human element to boating, and they build in features to allow for that, and other builders may want to take notice.

Regal 2000 (2009-) Captain's Report

Form Follows Function…

All too often, we see a boat that‘s built for looks, but the manufacturer totally forgets that there are people behind the wheel, and behind the purchase. Not so at Regal. They clearly have a design group that touches and feels what they build and allow for the simple touches that make things work so well, and they build a good looking boat to boot.

Case in point, take a look at the 2000 bowrider from the stern. There are flush mounted red lights back there. They actually get wired into the trailer lights to add another level of safety and visibility when trailering, as well as backups for when the trailer lights blow out. Regal is the only builder that does this that we can think of, and we like the concept.

The ski tow ring is recessed so you won’t have it digging into your leg of stubbing your toes. It is a simple thing to do, and like the trailering break lights, it costs a bit more, but worth it.

Where do you put the trash on your boat? It is amazing that until about 5 years ago or so, boat builders didn’t realize that boaters created trash! Lately the more enlightened builders have been putting trash containers on boats and Regal is among them.

Do you have an arm rest at the engine control? The 2000 does. How about a transom walk-through into the cockpit? The Regal 2000 has one. It’s these little things that separate the success stories from the dreary mundane.

Regal 2000

A nice pedestal table with teak top is optional. Check out the standard doors that close off the walk-through on chilly days. L-shaped seating has storage underneath and accommodates the standard sunpad. The stereo is concealed in the lockable glovebox on the passenger side.

Nice List of Standards

We also like that Regal includes a number of items on their standard list that others like to charge extra for on the options list. Things like a digital depth finder, which everyone ends up getting as an option. The cockpit and bow cover are never seen as standard, but Regal didn’t get that memo either. Little things too, like the lockable glove box, the battery switch and power assist steering. We also like the magnetic catches for the walk trough windshield and the transom walk through door.

Must Have Options…

So if all these goodies are standard, what’s left as optional that you should be looking at? We’d add the up and down adjustment to the helm seat. We’re not all built the same after all. The bow sunpad is always welcome and makes for great scenery from the helm! We also like the Flexiteak insert for the swim platform. And while we’re back there, the optional radio remote and tilt switch for the swim platform wouldn’t hurt. And if you’re into wakeboarding, then the tower is a must have.

Regal did not get Capt. Steve’s memo about always mounting the stereo AM/FM control within easy reach of the helmsmen. It may come as a surprise to the folks at Regal, but some helmspersons are control freaks. They are afraid that someone else might be calling the tunes. And as we always say, “He who pays the piper, calls the tune.”

Regal’s 2000 bowrider not only comes through with great looks, but great features. With engine options ranging from 220-hp up to 300-hp, you’ll be leaving the dock in style hauling skiers and boarders out of the water in short order as well.

MSRP on this boat with standard Volvo 4.3 GXi SX 225-hp is $36,246.
