Designed for Performance
The TZX200 is an impressive package with almost all the features an avid bass fisherman would want right out of the box.
It was a cool overcast day when I got my first look at the Skeeter TZX200 bass boat, but not even the cloudy skies could dull the look of this boat. The finish sparkled under even poor light, and when the sun came out, wow.
Skeeter clearly knows how to build a bass boat that can impress. Sleek in design, and wonderfully finished, you start noticing the details right away in this well-equipped boat. Skeeter has wisely chosen to outfit this boat with numerous standard features that will appeal to the avid fisherman.
Among its many standard features is a custom matching trailer, a fully equipped instrument panel, including a Lowrance LCF 1440 fishfinder, and a built-in cooler under the passenger and flip down center seat. Just below is a convenient step to the rear fishing platform.
A Minnkota Max74 trolling motor and a 12-inch manual jackplate for fine-tuning your engine’s performance are also standard. But we will tell you, that right out of the box, our TZX200 performed well.
The TXZ200 cruised best at 31.8 mph at 3000 rpm with a range of 207 miles. Equipped with a great performing Yamaha 200-horsepower HPDI VMax and a 15 1/8 by 25 inch stainless steel propeller, we saw a swift 70.2 mph with two people on board. But speed was not the only factor that made this boat a joy on the water. It was also the way the hull knocked down the waves and cut into corners without pounding. Water slap was well muffled making this boat feel extremely solid over the water.
There is no doubt that the key to the TZX200’s solid feel is Skeeter’s revolutionary Aluminum Torque Transfer Transom and Stringer System. While the boat is under construction, high-test aircraft structural aluminum is bonded to the transom and stringers on the TZX200. Skeeter says this construction method eliminates virtually all stress on the transom, deck and hull sides of the boat.
The result of this system is the vertical torque forces generated by the thrust of the engine, as it pushes against the transom are transformed into a lateral horizontal force, which is distributed throughout the bottom of the boat, providing lift along the entire keel. All of this heavy-duty engineering provides a really stiff structure to the boat, which you can feel as it is underway. The company says the boat could even be suspended by the engine bolts with no loss of hull integrity.
Throughout the TZX200 are floor compartments for your gear. The rod storage locker is lit to make it easy to find the right rod at night. Quality of construction is evident everywhere, from the smooth finish of the fiberglass and stainless steel cleats, to the things you don’t see, such as to fully lined storage bins. Fishermen will especially like the built-in fishing line spooler and livewell system with an independent fill, recirculating and drain modes with timer and pumpout.
Designed for Performance
The TZX200’s hull is designed to cut into the water on sharp turns with confidence. Chines at the stern are designed to limit the amount of heel the boat will experience during mid and high speed turns. Engineers also designed sponsons at the stern to add buoyancy to better support the engine’s weight and add stability for moving about while fishing. The sponsons also eliminate the need for a splashwell. The result works. Walking about the Skeeter TZX200 is an exercise of stability. The cleanly-designed stern also makes for a really finished look with all the engine hoses and wiring nicely channeled into the stern.
Overall, the TZX200 is an impressive package with almost all the features an avid bass fisherman would want right out of the box. But if you want more customization, there are a host of options available, even down to the look and convenience of the trailer.
