Sea Ray 370 Sundancer Captain's Report
Sure, with those standard Mercs, the 370 has a surprisingly large 188 mile range at cruising speed. But with a pair of optional 292-hp Caterpillar diesels, you could almost double those legs. Getting into the engine space isn’t a twist and squirm proposition, either. The engine hatch, aka as the aft cockpit deck, raises electrically with the flip of a switch. No furniture to move out of the way or carpet to bring up; it all comes up with the hatch. Inside, there’s nothing that cannot be reached effortlessly. Checking and changing fluids is a one-hand operation and ongoing maintenance is just as simple. And there’s even plenty of room for major repairs. The engine room decks, as well as the inside of every stowage area on the 370, is gelcoated, so you can forget about fiberglass splinters. No safety consideration has been overlooked. The decks feature a tough, molded-in nonslip surface and the 316 stainless steel railings are throughbolted. This kind of consideration extends to the swim platform with its three-step stainless steel ladder that can be deployed onboard or by a swimmer in the water. Naturally, entertainment possibilities haven’t been forgotten. Standard stereo sound is piped out to the cockpit via waterproof speakers, and there’s even a cockpit sink and icemaker. Who says traveling with the family can’t include fun and excitement?
