Regal’s 2250 Cuddy was designed to give the sportboat performance of the company’s FasTrac hull, with the overnight capabilities of a cuddy cabin.
Notice Regal’s vented FasTrac hull and the wrap-around windshield with walk-through.
Distinguishing Features
• Automatic fire suppression system. High marks to Regal for making this standard. Others add it to the options list and we wouldn’t be caught without it.
• Gel coat graphics and boot stripe. This ensures that the graphics will last longer than taped on counterparts.
• Stainless steel bow scuff plate. Another must-have item in our book that usually gets relegated to the options list.
• Transom mounted brake and turn indicators. This makes trailering the 2250 Cuddy safer and the lights are higher up so following trucks have them in their line of sight.
• Swivel bow walkthrough steps. At first glance the steps to the walkthrough seem quite narrow, but swivel them to the side and they form wide treads that are comfortable to step on. Swivel out of the way when not in use.
• FasTrac hull. Regal’s exclusive design of a vented hull reduces surface friction and improves speed and efficiency.
Cuddy
Regal’s 2250 Cuddy provides all the comfort of the company’s sportboats with a roomy 75” x 60” (191 mm x 152 mm) cuddy cabin. The cuddy is covered in LeatherCrest upholstery giving the warm look of leather without the demanding maintenance. In the center of the V-berth is a standard chemical toilet, but the more advantageous route would be to go for the optional pump-out toilet with the fittings located under the anchor locker hatch.
The cuddy cabin offers a V-berth with a head just beneath. An overhead hatch allows a second exit, ventilation, and natural light. Notice the wrap-around storage shelves just above the berth.
On Deck
The cockpit offers L-shaped seating to aft and port. Dual bucket seats are fitted for the captain and observer and both have swivel and slide adjustments. More significantly, the seats offer wrap-around security from the upper half of the seatbacks, while the lower are narrowed allowing a quick side-spin of the body for easier egress from the seat itself. Both seats include flip-up bolsters.
L-shaped seating with dual bucket seats and a refreshment center make up some of the on deck amenities.
The helm features burl wood accents that match the trim of the three-spoke tilt-mounted wheel. A Fusion stereo has dedicated space to port. The digital depth finder is standard.
A starboard side refreshment center includes a stainless steel sink and an optional post-mounted grill that hangs over the side.
A walk-through to the swim platform is to port and access to the batteries is here as well as dedicated anchor storage.
Swivel steps to the windshield walk-through allow for a comfortable foot placement while being able to save space when not in use.
The platform features a V-shaped transom with a stainless steel plate accommodating the pop-up ski tow post in the center. To either side is the trademark towing lights that are so recognizable on Regal boats. A hatch to port conceals the three-step reboarding ladder and limited wet-storage space is available for tow-lines and the like. A flexi-teak option is available for the entire platform.
The sunpad offers a chaise lounge adjustment for more comfortable sunning that includes a view of the surroundings.
An anchor storage locker is concealed under a hatch at the bow, but we’d like to see an anchor keeper holding it in place. The molded space at the lower left of the opening will mount a pump-out fitting from the head.
Observations
Regal is quite consistent in making quality boats that handle well. Available with up to 6 engines from 260-hp to 300-hp, speed and towing ability will hardly be a concern with this 2250 Cuddy. For those looking for a boat that offers more than the typical day sportboat, the search should clearly include the Regal 2250 Cuddy.
