Powered by twin or triple 350-hp outboards, the OS 375 is a fast, beefy fishboat that'll take you out where the big ones swim.

She Comes Complete

If you know anything about boats, you know that quality doesn’t come cheap, and boats like the Pursuit live near the top of the price scale. The MSRP of the OS 375, with triple Yamaha 350 four-stroke outboards, is $520,470. (You can have it with twin 350s, too.) That ain’t hay, but the good news is, the boat comes almost 100% complete for that price, except for electronics.



The windshield has an infused fiberglass frame fitted with tempered safety glass; bridge-deck furniture and hatches are also infused.

MSRP includes the hardtop (with spreader lights, 8 rod holders and 4 recessed stereo speakers); an anchor windlass; a 5.4-hp bow thruster; reverse-cycle air conditioning in both cabin and cockpit and an 8.0-kW Panda diesel generator with its own 25-gal. fuel tank. Pursuit molds-in aluminum reinforcement plates for a fighting chair and downriggers; the wiring for the downriggers is there, too.



A 240-volt cockpit grill is standard, part of the molded-fiberglass wet bar; it has hot and cold water and a companion 64-qt refrigerator/freezer.



Under the grill? Tackle drawers and plenty of stowage.



The 300-qt transom box is another refrigerator/freezer, digitally controlled with an overboard drain.

Built Pursuit Tough

According to the builder, the OS 375 “incorporates advanced production and manufacturing processes, which increase the level of quality in the lamination process while providing weight savings.” Rather than secondary-bonded stringers and frames – where problems often arise after a few seasons of hard running offshore -- Pursuit supports the bottom with an infused one-piece fiberglass grid. (Infusion produces a superior molding without excess weight.) Other critical areas are also reinforced. Rails and deck hardware are stainless steel. S2 covers the OS 375 with the Pursuit Protection Plan: 5-year warranty on hull and deck structure; 5 year blister warranty; 2-year limited warranty on the rest.



Under gunwale rod stowage? Check. There’s more on the other side, too, and in the cabin. The coaming bolsters are dry-fast foam, and come standard.

Belowdecks

For entertainment, the OS 375 has not one, but two flat-screen TVs, a 19” with DVD player in the main cabin and a 15” in the forward berth. The boat’s wired for dockside TV cable, and has an antenna, too. For sounds, you’ll find a Clarion stereo system with 6 speakers.



The open-plan cabin makes the OS 375 seem bigger belowdecks – the space isn’t broken up by bulkheads. Privacy suffers, though.



We were happy not to see the ubiquitous pedestal berth forward; instead, Pursuit has installed a catty-corner double that looks a little small for two full-sized folks.



The V-berth is an unusual shape, but a couple can sleep in the conventional mid-berth. There’s a dinette, and a small settee, too.

Propulsion

Large boats powered by twin or triple high-hp outboards are a relatively new thing – more popular in the past 10 years or so, anyway. Why rely on outboards in a boat this size? Four-stroke OBs are lightweight relative to horsepower, reliable and simple: No need for pods, or shafts and struts and rudders. There’s less underwater gear to damage, so you can poke around in shallow water with less worry. Tip up the motors and the OS 375 draws only 25”. And hanging the motors off the transom leaves lots of room for underdeck stowage.



Trimming the motors in or out can improve ride comfort; keeping the weight so far aft helps, too.

The downside? Outboards can get in the way when fighting a big fish, and occupy what would otherwise be an ample swim platform. They burn more gas per horsepower than inboard or, especially, diesels – but they weigh less, so overall fuel consumption isn’t hurt much. We haven’t tested the OS 375 yet, but according to Pursuit fuel burn with triple 350 four-stoke Yamaha OBs is 38.0 gph at 4000 rpm and 33.8 mph, the most economical cruise speed. Range at that speed is approximately 296 miles with 10% fuel reserve. Top speed with triples is 54.3 mph, fuel burn 103.8 gph.



Through fishing? Flip down the aft seats and relax. The transom rod holders are a $1,365 option.

With twin 350 outboards, again according to Pursuit, optimal cruise speed is 32.1 mph at 4500 rpm and 35.6 gph; range is 300 miles. Top speed is 45.5 mph at 67.6 gph. You don’t lose much by opting for the twins, and you’ll save thousands on the purchase price. Check with your dealer for exact numbers.



Electronics are optional, but there’s room at the helm for all you need, and then some. We like the instrument array across the top, just under eye level. But the glass bottle will come flying out in rough water; better use plastic next time.

What Else Do You Need?

The OS 375 base boat is well-equipped, but you’ll want to add electronics. Pursuit offers several Raymarine options for GPS/plotter, radar and autopilot, but your local electronics dealer might make you a better deal. Figure on spending $20,000 for a nice electronics package. Otherwise, unless you want a custom hull color (adds up to $5,880), upgraded canvas ($1,430) or Rupp outriggers ($5,885), your OS 375 will be complete for around $540,000, before negotiation.



Comin’ at you – all you need is a checkbook. Well-found, a Pursuit OS 375 Offshore will set you back about $540,000, less what you can squeeze out of your dealer.

For that price you’ll get a very nice boat, one that’s top of the line in quality from one of the best builders around. While we think there are better boats out there for cruising folks who want to fish now and then (try the Tiara 3600 Open), fanatic fishaholics should check out the Pursuit OS 375 before buying a new boat. It’s a beauty.
