The 3070 Express — Not Your Ordinary Fishboat
It is an age-old fisherman’s dilemma: Buy a no-nonsense, all-out angling machine, or compromise with extra seating and creature comforts for the family at the expense of fishability. Why settle when you can have both with the 3070 Express from Pursuit?
The defining feature of any fish boat is the cockpit. On the 3070 Express, the aft bench seat folds into a recess in the wide transom, leaving 56 square feet of unobstructed space for fighting a trophy fish – or two! To avoid cockpit clutter, a thirty-gallon livewell and bait prep sink with cutting board are conveniently molded into the transom, and the five-foot-long fishbox in the cockpit sole comes complete with macerator and drain. Other fish-friendly standard features include rod holders, under gunnel rod storage, cockpit coaming bolsters, tackle drawers, saltwater washdown, recessed aft cleats, and recessed trim tabs. The unique storage space under the bridgedeck has removable inserts to hold at least eight rods or copious gear, all locked up out of harms way. The space is entered via an electric lift, and is lighted for nighttime access.
While she is obviously designed to fish, the 3070 Express offers uncompromising comfort for day-cruising as well. The bridgedeck includes a large L-shaped settee, sink, and room for an optional icemaker. The cockpit sports a convenient, built-in fifteen-gallon drink cooler and aft facing jump seat. The folding bench seat across the transom is perfect for relaxing in the sun; and cooling off on hot days is facilitated by the transom door, integral swim platform, and oversized boarding ladder. Walk-around side decks and a welded stainless steel bow rail provide convenient, safe access forward. The bow pulpit with stainless steel roller and easily accessed anchor rode locker make dropping the hook trouble-free. The locker also includes molded-in storage for a second anchor and room for an optional windlass.
As expected from Pursuit, there are no concessions made in quality or attention to detail either. The helm offers great visibility. The windshield is higher than most. Electronics and switches for equipment are easily reached, and the console tilts out for access inside. The wide helm seat, which slides forward and back electrically, can be adjusted for sitting or leaning, or moved out of the way when the action gets hot. With all of the standard equipment onboard and room for options, Pursuit designers could not provide easy access to the batteries. No compromises here: At the touch of a button the battery box slides out for maintenance, and back again for access to through-hull fittings for the livewell and saltwater washdown.
The 3070 Express performed well during sea-trials, topping out at 44.6 MPH. At the most economical cruising speed of 30 MPH, she will cover 300 miles with fuel to spare. Full of fuel and water, the boat planed off quickly and trimmed out well, although maybe a touch bow heavy. With 21° of deadrise, and a ten-and-a-half foot beam, the boat should be comfortable running into a head sea or trolling in the troughs.
Below decks, the 3070 Express is a cozy overnight cruiser. The forward berth, set diagonally along the port side of the bow, is comfortable for two. To starboard, the galley has a microwave, refrigerator, sink, and storage. Aft of the galley on the starboard side, the dinette is spacious and well appointed. To port is a practicable head with an electric marine toilet, sink, and storage. A seat folds over the toilet to make a viable shower. The companionway stairs fold out of the way to give access to a cubical underneath the bridgedeck. While this space is not quite six feet long and a little claustrophobic, a mattress is provided for junior fisherman. A more advantageous use, however, is storing extra gear and supplies that would otherwise clutter the cabin. Two portholes and a large hatch provide ventilation. Options include air conditioning, stereo system, and an LCD flatscreen television with VCR.
