If you are serious about offshore fishing and have spent enough time out on the open water to learn the difference between a good boat and a great boat then the new Pursuit 3800 express may be the perfect choice to confidently accomplish all of your offshore adventures.
The 3800 Express is the result of years of refinement and design throughout the Pursuit fleet. The 3800 charges triumphantly across open water with speed and stability due in part to her advanced hull design and excellent weight distribution.
Starting at the bow there’s a molded anchor roller and hawse pipe in the bow pulpit with a large anchor locker in deck that houses both fresh and saltwater washdowns. The entire foredeck is non-skidded and there are three finely crafted low profile stainless steel and Lexan deck hatches that brighten the interior. The windshield is of a wrap around design and adds to the sleek lines of the 3800’s express appeal. A full tuna tower is optional and highly desired if you’re going to chase the big ones. Towers range in cost from adequate to aerodynamically streamlined and from observation to fully instrumented dual station. Fighting chairs are also optional ranging from simple and plastic to elegant and varnished.
The cockpit is all business and is strictly designed for the offshore fisherman who knows the finer points of angling. There’s a huge livewell with viewing port and storage for tackle beneath, a mate’s seat to starboard with tackle drawers beneath, floor storage, and a huge fishbox in the cockpit sole. The tuna gate in the transom is designed for oversized catches and there’s an aft bench seat that flips into use for those evening cocktail cruises.
The bridge deck is where you’ll find comfortable seating for guests and crew alike. To starboard is the command center of the 3800 with digital instrumentation and precise electronic controls for easy navigation and operation. Just aft is a wet bar with icebox beneath and additional engine room access is located through this floor hatch. To port you’ll find a comfortable “L” shaped lounge with storage beneath. There’s even a neat chart station just forward of the port lounge seating complete with a clear cover for easy viewing while underway.
The salon is tastefully appointed with teak veneered walls, coveted appointments throughout and a teak and holly sole with storage beneath. The elegant and comfortable settee to starboard converts into a double berth. Just aft is the galley complete with sink, sprayer, stove, and refrigerator/freezer. To port there’s a tournament rod locker fit for the tools of the trade and a leather couch that converts into an over and under double bunk. Moving forward you’ll find a full sized head with shower stall and forward still is the owner’s berth with privacy curtain. Entertainment systems can range from adequate to extreme and feature some of the newest in flat screen technology and sub woofer sound systems.
The 3800’s wide beam of 14’2” and her overall length of 40’11” give her a true battlewagon ride while offering the finer points of craftsmanship and design.
Out on our test run we reached a top speed of 37.7 mph turning 2650 rpm with the pair of Volvo 74P diesels. We determined the best cruise speed to be 27.5 mph turning 2000 rpm giving us a range of 376 miles based on the 450-gallon fuel capacity. She’s adequately quick as well getting on plane in only 15.3 seconds.
Utilizing the proven designs and technology of the Pursuit fleet, the 3800 is surely to become a coveted fishing machine among the serious offshore crowd. Even if you don’t fish, this boat would make a great cruiser and provide years of unparalleled service for you and your guests.
