When Doral began to analyze this move, they thought they were building something to replace the Monticello. The more they looked into it and got some customer response, the more it became evident it would be a new model added. The wider, 9’4” beam was well received by potential clients and they liked the option of adding a hardtop or arch. This model is offered in both the single and twin engine variety and has an option to add a generator. Seating is bountiful and performance was good with a single engine.

Doral 260 Venezia Captain's Report

Doral 260 Venezia

By Capt. Rob Smith

The original concept for the 260 was to build a pocket cruiser for the planned obsolescence of the Monticello. They wanted to add beam width and the option for a hard top or arch making the Monticello more attractive to a broader range of cruisers. Instead, they elected to keep the narrower beamed Monticello for that audience and offer the newer 260 as the Venezia.

Entertainment Space

The Venezia leads all dock connections to one corner of the large swim platform play center. A deep reach four-step swim ladder and stainless grab rails across the back make it simple to get in after a dip or just hang around the swim platform.

The cockpit has room to bring along the family and a few friends. Bench seating wraps around from the helm and can have fillers for a large lounger sunpad. Storage is accessed from the front of the seat bases, but I like the old fashioned through –the-seat-bottom style for easy large item stowage better. A cool option on our test boat was the drawer refrigerator and stereo amplifier with base woofer mounted under the aft seats. Along the port side was an integrated refreshment center with sink and prep station. Battery switches are inside the storage center within easy reach of the stern yet out of site of curious little ones. The engine hatch is manual, yet easy to lift. The single Volvo 5.7GXi fits easily in the mechanical spaces and proves you can squeeze twins in here.

Plush Seating Arrangement

Forward seating includes a short aft facing lounger and a flip-flop helm bench. Even though this seemed odd, it did enhance at-anchor seating aft. The helm was orderly with three levels for gauges and a wooden tilt wheel. Center stage was room for a large display panel GPS mapping system. Lenco trim tabs balance the load for smoother, more comfortable rides.

Steps to the bow are molded in the dash. On the bow, by test ride had rails for safety and an electric windlass for near effortless anchoring. Rather than applying a cover hatch, the Venezia has an exposed windlass in a well.

Interior Accommodations

The Venezia does a good job making use of the space available and crating a larger feel. The galley is situated to port with the dinette in the large forward Vee. The overhead hatch did a great job of flooding the forward area with light and air. The wood accent strip in the headliner really dressed up what is normally a dull roof. Galley equipment included an exposed power panel next to the microwave oven, single burner cooktop and NorCold refrigerator.

The aft or midcabin is well lit with natural light. This crawl-in space has a large mattress and two reading lights. The kids will love this space and a couple could easily snuggle up for a night on the hook.

There’s a stereo remote next to the head, along with hand-held shower, vanity faucet and toilet.

Specs and Speed

The Venezia measures 26’5” overall on a beam width of 9’4”. She weighs about 7,000 lbs. and carries 75 gallons of fuel and 30 gallons of fresh water.

She took 7 seconds to reach plane and 14 to make 30 mph. Her top speed reached 43.2 mph and cruise speed seemed to be about 28.8 mph at 3500 rpm.

If you are looking to enter the cruising life with a growing young family, the Venezia seems to offer comfort and the added stability of a 9 foot beam.
