JC Pontoon SportToon 25 TT (2007-) Captain's Report
JC SportToon 25 TT
By Capt. Bob Smith
JC Pontoon has been building some of the best pontoon boats in the industry for nearly 30 years. They introduced the concept of tri-hulls years ago and brought speed and performance to the industry.
At the Bow
Beginning at the front, the SportToon 25 TT features reinforced corners for protection from the docks. JC uses a lot of marine-grade stainless steel including the docking lights on the bow. The heavy duty cleats have a large center eye so you can pass a decent-sized line through. The double door entry gate allows you to bring a wheel chair or docking cart through easily. Corner pods have nice tip-out glove boxes and near the bottom a small cargo net storage pocket can hold sunglasses and sunscreen lotions. The sides have a stainless steel drinkholder and an access door to more storage inside.
Forward Lounge & Storage
The forward lounge section on our test boat had optional seating with two captain’s chairs divided by an adjustable height table. The snack table is constructed with starboard type material with a sea rail lip and twin stainless drinkholders. Over on the starboard side of the boat is a lounger with modular end cap. One option is the fixed angled back with twin drinkholders and tip out trash bin. They are surrounded with a rubber gasket around the door to dampen rattles and noises. Lounger seat bases are constructed with roto-cast plastic which is vinyl covered and provide excellent storage. Port and starboard entry gates in the side allow alongside docking access.
Helm Station
The helm station has a flip top design so have excellent access to the wiring and cable runs to the dash. If you ever have tried to add something to a boat dash, you will really appreciate this. The dash features wood accents and a tilt wheel. Lighted rocker switches are at your fingertips and these switches have push-button circuit breakers to protect the powered equipment. Standard equipment on the 25TT includes a Hummingbird 727 Matrix fish finder as well as a Clarion Marine stereo with AM/FM/CD and Sirius Satellite radio with six months of satellite service included.
Comfortable Seating
Aft seating is the typical “L” with loungers on roto-molded seat bases and hinged seat bottoms allowing for tremendous storage capacity. The end cap on this lounger had two stainless steel drinkholders in the top, a fixed angled back, and a 36 quart Igloo carry-on cooler. The bimini is overhead with thick polished tubes and Sunbrella material. Beneath the sun pad in the back is a full-width storage bin with more storage below. Two fenders store in a stainless steel rack behind the driver’s seat. Our test model was designed with twin outboard style swim platforms with a concealed swim ladder under the starboard side. We also had the optional ski tow rack on the back. The stern light is a new style that easily plugs in and telescopes up into position. This saves space and seems to be more durable than the typical single pole aluminum style.
Specifications
The SportToon 25TT measures 25 feet length overall with a deck width of 8’6”. She weighs in at 2150 lbs without engine and can carry up to 4000 lbs of people and gear. She can handler up to 225-hp outboard engines and has a standard 55 gallon fuel capacity.
Performance & Handling
I tested on Lake Wawasee in Indiana on a calm summer day. The 25 SportToon showed she had enough guts to be a great ski boat and the handling needed for smooth rides.
For speed, ride, and capacity, the 25 SportToon delivers a smooth, comfortable ride.
