Tiara 4200 Open (2006) Captain's Report
Luxury and Performance the Whole Way
By Chris Kourtakis
For over four decades Tiara has been pursuing the ultimate goal of perfection when it comes to building yachts and the way that they conduct business. Tiara’s 4200 Open is no different. The company offers the 4200 in three unique and distinct layouts suited for your journey.
From the Stern Up
The spacious cockpit is padded all the way around the gunnels to insure your safety when reeling in the big catch. The high gunnels and padding is great when kids are aboard, and will make any parent feel safe.
On the stern, you will find a large transom livewell, which is part of the Tiara Tournament Series Fishing Package. On either side of the cockpit, there are lockable rod lockers for your favorite rod and reel package. The automatic CableMaster is on the starboard side of the cockpit with easy access to the shore power.
Tiara made sure to use every inch of space in the cockpit, including the space under your feet. There is an abundant amount of removable storage compartments for fenders and dock lines, and a removable ice box to keep the catch cool. One addition I would like to see here is a gas-assisted shock, making access to the storage easier.
You gain access to the optional 42-inch swim platform through a heavy-duty fiberglass transom door. Once on the swim platform, you have access to the built-in swim ladder or the optional davit mounts. The hot and cold transom shower is located in the walkway.
Completing the cockpit is the optional large baitwell with gas-assisted shocks, a three-drawer tackle storage and bait-prep center with a cutting board and cold water washdown, which is all part of the TTS package. If the tournament series fishing package is not for you, then your 4200 will feature a large, inviting bench for your guests.
A Few Steps up
Step up to the inviting bridge deck with the stainless steel handrail and integrated steps. The deck is well designed with a large high backed L-shaped lounge on the port side that sits up high to gives guests a 360-degree view. There is plenty of storage room underneath the lounge for added gear brought aboard. Completing the lounge area are four large drinkholders and a compartment to store all of your charts with a clear Plexi-glass top.
The wet bar with cold water sink and refrigerator is located on the starboard side, behind the captain’s chair.
Helm Station
Attention to detail is evident when you step behind the wheel. The specifically designed layout has room for your electronics and engine monitors. There is also a Clarion Satellite ready CD player at your finger tips. The helm is fully instrumented with a Charles battery charger, Teleflex hydraulic steering, Aquamet prop shafts, and VDO Ocean engine instrumentation. The flush mounted stainless steel wheel makes driving comfortable and the power captain’s chair moves up and down and front to back for added comfort.
One unique optional feature on this boat and not many others of its size is the rpm troll down controls (trolling values). This feature makes backing down, or trolling easy when reeling in that huge marlin.
Completing the bridge deck is a large and distinctive hardtop which includes spreader lights, rocket launchers (part of the TTS Package), hatches for ventilation, and side enclosures to protect from the elements. The inner side of the top is even painted blue to insure that there is no glare when you are on the water.
Down Below
Throughout the entire cabin are beautiful teak floors. The galley is large enough and features Corian countertops which surround the stainless steel sink, and two-burner electric stove. A unique two-drawer Sub-Zero refrigerator and freezer give you maximum capacity, while using minimal space. Above the refrigerator is a stainless steel microwave, a standard coffeemaker and plenty of storage for your overnight trips.
Rest Assured
Surrounding the queen-size island berth in the master stateroom are large cherry wood cabinets with integrated lighting underneath. The cedar-lined closet will make sure that your favorite fishing shirt is not wrinkled for evenings out.
Of course, no master stateroom is complete without a private head that includes a Vacuflush toilet, vanity with sink, and a separate shower with small seat.
Your guest will also sleep well in the cozy stateroom located on the starboard side of the cabin. Two oversized bunk beds and a flat screen TV will insure that your guests are as comfortable as you are.
Another feature that Tiara engineered into the boat is that the closet can also be used as a rod and reel locker with the help of the integrated floor and wall rod holders.
Next to your guest’s stateroom is the salon head. This simple, yet elegant head features an enclosed shower, vanity with sink, and a Vacuflush toilet.
Power Plant
Access to the engines is gained by lifting the floor hatch on the main deck or by using the access door in the cockpit. The compartment has a clean look from the white gelcoated walls and floor. Maintaining the engines is easy because they are accessible from all sides, and the optional Reverso Oil Change system allows you to change your oil with the flip of a switch.
Nimble and Powerful
On beautiful Lake Michigan, our test boat hummed across the water at 27 mph for an impressive range of 341 miles. With twin 535-hp Cummins diesel engines she topped out at 36.2 miles-per-hour. The versatile 4200 Open did not even notice the 1-2 foot waves crashing on her hull. This yacht is built for the open waters and will give any captain the confidence they need when behind the wheel.
Tiara has built a yacht that will handle any type of water conditions. Add the Tiara Tournament Series Fishing Package (TTS) and you have a versatile vessel that will impress your friends at the yacht club, and all the other contestants in the fishing tournament. Either way, the combination of luxury and performance come together in one great package called the 4200 Open.
