Trophy tells us that ride, range, and fishability are at the heart and soul of their all-new 2203 Center Console. Okay, we’ll buy that, but over 70 builders of nearly 1,000 other center consoles tell us pretty much the same thing. After taking a good look at the new Trophy 2203 CC we’d say it’s got everything you need without a lot of the frills and things you don’t need. It’s a solid boat with a price that is low enough that if you take a pass on fishing a weekend or two, you aren’t going to feel guilty just letting the boat sit. In our book that kind of relationship with one’s boat is what makes for fun boating. At 22’6” she’s a good size for short runs to the shoals or long runs offshore in decent weather. You can just make out the stainless steel grab rails that go all the way from the bow to even with the helm. Notice the removable backrest on the aft bench seat. This boat is shown with the optional fabric T-top.

Fishability...

Good “fishability” means more than a rod holder or two. It means having the whole package so that all you have to bring aboard is bait, tackle and a positive attitude. The Trophy 2203 Center Console comes equipped with a raised bow deck casting platform nestled between two 90 qt. fishboxes with overboard drains. At the stern there’s a 35 gallon center mounted aerated livewell. To port and starboard of the live well two storage compartments are located below the jump seats with drop in buckets.

Buckets are the best and most used tool onboard, but there’s rarely dedicated storage for them, so I’m happy that the folks at Trophy have recognized that and are using them. Below the gunwale mounted rod holders (4), there’s storage for two rods on either side of the cockpit, and down at the deck is a stainless steel toe rail to give you just a bit more security when leaning out with the gaff.

The aft bench seat has a removable backrest, so it’s comfortable when running, and out of the way when fishing. And since most fishermen are thirsty, there are stainless drink holders mounted in the gunwale. We like that there’s a captains storage tray in the console for incidentals like hand held radios, a cell phone and a spare GPS. The seat forward of the console has storage beneath, pretty much like every other center console on earth.

The optional extras...

Every boat needs choices and the Trophy 2203 is no exception. That said, her options list is quite short since most equipment is standard. The most notable options are her engine choices, which are very much skewed towards the Mercury line. Engine options include 3 Mercury Optimax 2-stroke engines (200-hp standard, 225-hp and 250-hp), 3 Mercury 4-stroke/supercharged Verado’s (200XL, 225XL, and 250XL)- add $1,591 to $9,197 depending on which Mercury engine you pick.

The surprise engine option is the 225-hp Four Stroke Suzuki (add $3,321). This is one of precious few examples of a Brunswick brand offering a non-Brunswick engine. We’re told that it is because Trophy wanted to be more competitive in the 225-hp range, and indeed they are as the 225 Suzuki is $4,060 less money than the 225-hp four-stroke/supercharged Mercury Verado.

With you and several of your buddies aboard, is 200 hp enough poop? Based on other Trophies we have tested with Merc power, with the 200 we guess that the new 2203 should be able to hit 40 mph with several anglers aboard.



Port and starboard storage compartments have drop in buckets included. Hooray!

Options and Cost.

The MSRP base price of this boat with the 200-hp Merc Optimax is $42,487. This is a good MSRP price, but once you get some other things you are going to need the price will go up another $12k. What might those items be? They are—

Obviously if you don’t need cushions, trailer, or the T-top, you can bring the boat in for $44,840. Put $10k down at 9%, and your monthly payments will be only $441.33.
