Formula 37 PC (2001 - 2004) Captain's Report
The Formula 37 PC is a great blend of performance and comfort providing overnight capabilities and lots of fun out on the water. With new and updated styling the new 37 reflects modern and tasteful lines while ensuring the well-known Formula backbone.
Starting at the helm, the performance feel is not only generated by the hull and power package, but by the racing style gauges, tilt sport steering wheel and the racing style shift levers and throttles. The dash features a trademark Formula anti glare gelcoat that provides easy visibility of gauges and meters while underway on the sunniest of days. The wide helm seat and flip up bolster add to the experience with firm padding and ease of use while at the helm. There’s molded non-skid steps leading to the foredeck by way of the walkthrough windshield and a stout stainless grab rail gives security even when moving about the helm area. The companionway door is nicely integrated into the helm and there’s a double seat to port with storage beneath for the added comfort of crew or navigators. The cockpit is perfect for entertaining or just hanging out and with the addition of two removable tables and sun pad inserts becomes a great eating area or a huge sun pad.
Engine access is easy by way of the integrated floor and transom hatch and there’s plenty of room for service and additional room for storage of mechanical items and parts. The transom door keeps younger boaters at bay when closed and also provides great access to the wide swim platform that’s great for boarding, swimming/ diving, or just handling lines while docking.
The fore deck is completely non-skidded, protected by high bow rails, and is complimented by a huge sun pad, anchor locker, and standard electric windlass for easy anchoring.
Moving into the interior it becomes evident that this vessel also offers a fine level of sophistication and comfort. There’s lots of headroom in the cabin and the entire beam of the hull is utilized providing a wide interior and space that is surprising for a boat this size. To starboard a U-shaped lounge fitted in elegant ultra leather neatly converts into large double berth. Forward the master berth is placed on the centerline and is flanked by large hanging closets. To port is the galley with beautiful Corian hard surface counter tops, stovetop, microwave, refrigerator/ freezer, and loads of storage both top and under counter to provision your boat for extended stays. You also have a choice of finishes; natural or deep cherry. The head is exceptionally large as well for a boat this size with full standing shower stall using the frosted plastic doors that neatly fold and store flat against the inner wall.
The mid cabin berth is located aft just under the helm area and is also roomy and comfortable. Converting it to a large berth is very easy by pulling out the middle section of the rear sofa.
The 37 PC is an agile craft to maneuver as well thanks in part to the raised helm visibility and the performance hull. The boat is quick to plane and handles sharp turns at speed with grace and stability. Docking was easy as well but if you opt for the sterndrive package be sure your drives are straight when attempting to back into a slip. Otherwise it can be a little confusing when operating the twin screws.
All in all, we liked the 37 PC and applaud Formula on their new tooling and design. They have built a great performance cruiser utilizing new technology and components and will surely enjoy the continued success of this proven and enhanced design.
