Larson Cabrio 370 (2006-) Captain's Report

LARSON CABRIO 370

By Capt. Ron Svoboda

The Cabrio 370 is the flagship of Larson’s line of cruisers and she sets herself apart from the rest of the family with sleek styling and a low profile, European silhouette. The boat is based on a wide, deep-V hull that has 22 degrees of deadrise at the transom, providing a solid ride in rough water and a very spacious cabin and cockpit. Propelling this sexy express cruiser is a pair of gasoline inboards connected to ZF V-drive transmissions. Standard power is 375 horsepower, fuel injected engines that can be upgraded to 420 horses, but you won’t see much difference underway. On the other hand, opting for the Diesel package will definitely be noticeable, especially at the pump.

Cockpit Features

My favorite part of the 370 is the cockpit with its curvaceous seating that spans the starboard side as well as the transom. The entire area converts into a massive sun lounge or a sunset cocktail spot for ten. What’s more is the whole area raises with the touch of a button to access the engines, generator and other major systems. Forward in the cockpit, is a long settee to port with room for three to keep the skipper company. Just aft of the settee, is a wet bar that has an elongated sink, some counter space and a refrigerator or ice maker below.

The helm features an electrically controlled, double-wide helm seat. From here, the captain has a clear line of sight over the bow and the helm’s dash panel. A line of analog instrumentation for the engines is located above a second tier of electronic navigation screens and accessory power switches. All this is surrounded by burlwood trim and complimented by a Mahogany steering wheel.

Below Deck

The sizeable cabin offers a crescent-shaped dinette to starboard which is easily converted into a berth. Storage abounds in the side cabinets as we well as under the seat cushions. Onboard entertainment is supplied by a Clarion CD stereo with Sirius satellite radio built in, providing 100 channels of music through the boats eight speakers. In addition to the radio there is a 15 in. flat screen LCD TV in the salon and in the master cabin. The galley is to port and boasts a full size fridge/ freezer combo and good cabinet space. A solid surface countertop has removable panels that conceal the sink and electric cook top. There is also an enormous coffee maker that is large enough for the whole crew to enjoy mucho java. Located forward of the galley is the head and shower compartment featuring a separate shower stall, a small vanity with sink and a vacu-flush toilet.

Completing the interior of the 370 is the forward cabin which has a queen size island berth, numerous storage cabinets and a pair of his and hers hanging lockers. The overnight guests will enjoy the boats receptive mid cabin that offers a queen size berth that is comfortable, but a bit challenging to convert.

Performance and Handling

Underway I found the 370 to be a very easy to use cruiser. She has good manners both at speed and at the docks. Acceleration was very good for a boat of this size, but due to the inboard configuration, top speed and tight turns are limited.
