Captain's Report
Tested By Capt. Ron SvobodaThe all new 2400 SR3 is the flagship of the maxum line of sport boats. For years now, the Maxum engineers have been upgrading there group of bow riders with the utilitarian technology of the SR3 concept. This design includes a beam forward layout which results in significant improvement in overall cockpit space. The other attribute of the SR3 is storage space. Research has shown that storage capacity is key to boaters seeking an active, adventure driven lifestyle.Massive Storage SpaceProbably the most noticeable difference between the 2400 SR3 and other runabouts is the transom trunk. Positioned just forward of the two foot long bolt-on swim platform is Maxum’s transom storage locker, which is a giant storage bin that houses enough room for two full sets of scuba gear and spare tanks. There is also a very handy transom shower nozzle located inside the trunk for rinsing off. The hatch of the locker supplies a padded seat with enough room for two people to get skis or wakeboards on, or simply to just enjoy the view while anchored in your favorite bay.Cockpit FeaturesA starboard side transom walkthrough leads you to the SR3’s spacious cockpit and aft bench seat. The semi U-shaped seating allows room for several of your guests to enjoy, or it can be converted with the removal of cushions on both sides for easier access to the stern, or to expose a giant storage box on the port side. Unfortunately, there is no sun pad over the engine hatch, which is common on runabouts these days. Again, customer feedback has determined that the large beam width sun pad is becoming part of the past, as consumers are becoming more active and less interested in lounging in the sun.Amidships, the roominess is substantial, with more than enough space to take a pair of mountain bikes along for the ride, while still having enough room to move about. A pair of swivel bucket seats delivers the seating comfort for the captain and mate. The lavish chairs are mounted on super stout aluminum posts that adjust for height as well as forward and aft, making for the perfect fit behind the SR3’s ultra modern dash. Behind the tilt Dino steering wheel is a multi-pod designed helm with analog gauge clusters providing all the needed engine info. Trimmed in metallic silver panels, the white faced instruments compliment the easy to find accessory power toggle switches. On the companion side, a jumbo-sized, self draining glove box can do double duty as a cooler, ensuring that a cold beverage is within easy reach.Creature ComfortsNow if that doesn’t get the family excited, then the concealed head and changing compartment located to port in the molded helm station pod will. There is also an additional compartment on the starboard side, just forward of the pilot’s station, that supplies a quarter berth. This compartment can be ordered fully carpeted and provides the perfect spot for the kids to take a nap or even an adult to slip inside for some zzz’s.Bow FeaturesAt the front of the boat, wraparound seating offers room for two adults or several children. There is plenty of storage here, in addition to large grab rails and cupholders. A telescoping ladder combined with sure-footed textured deck surface will make beach landings safer and simpler.PerformanceEquipped with standard power the 2400 SR3 delivered good performance and a solid, comfortable ride from the hull’s deep-V running surface. Our test boat had a Bravo Three sterndrive which helped make it a breeze to dock. So, if you are looking for an all-around sport runabout with room for all your gear or 10 of your friends, then the Maxum 2400 SR3 is worth a serious look.Test Result Highlights
