Captain's ReportEliminator boats of Mira Loma, California, is notorious for building lighting fast and colorful speed machines. If you’re into hot rod boats, you’re probably familiar with the name Eliminator and its track record of building record-breaking performance boats. Just recently at Lake Mead Nevada, a 30 ft. version of the test boat set a new record for a production boat by screaming to over 100 miles per hour. This was accomplished with a pair of MerCruiser’s new electronically controlled, fuel injected stern drives; the 496 HO Magnums. Our test boat was also equipped with these dependable, high output motors. These were coupled to race proven IMCO drive boxes and external, hydraulic steering. It’s a good thing too, because when this boat gets cookin, you don’t want your steering to have a mind of its own! The 496 HO MAG’s produce around 425 horse power each, but if that’s not enough, you can opt for almost any size your heart may need to get jump started. I highly suggest the MerCruiser 900SC for you introverts. Although tame by some standards, the 496 HO’s propelled our test boat to a very respectable 86.3 miles per hour. We did have a full load of joy riders at the time, and had we had fewer bodies on board, I’m sure 90 mph would have been no problem. Getting to this eye watering speed takes some doing though. As with most high- powered boats, prop cavitation at low speeds requires some finesse with the throttles. Significant bow rise also keeps the captain busy until a fast plane is achieved. But once you’re at speed, the Daytona 33 provides a rock solid, stable ride all the way to the top of the power curve. The acceleration experienced with this boat will put a smile on all those aboard. Handling is also exceptional, as with catamaran hull configurations, a reversed roll is induced while carving turns. All this performance is impressive for a 33 foot long, 7,500 pound boat. The engineers at Eliminator made this happen by incorporating a woven hybrid of carbon fiber and Kevlar in their composite lay-up. This material provides a tough, yet lightweight property to the hull. The good folks at Eliminator also implemented the MerCruiser Smartcraft computerized engine information system. This all-in-one data panel allows you to view virtually any parameter of the power system and helps in managing these high-tech, high-speed machines.Back at the dock, you’ll find it hard to spend time with your guests, as people will come from all over the marina to admire your water toy. The impeccable quality and durability of the gel-coated graphics will keep them flocking for many years. Since Eliminator builds each boat to their customer’s specifications, you can have your choice of wild graphics and interiors. In the cockpit, high back helm and co-pilot seats keep you comfortable, as friends and family enjoy the wide bench seat to aft. Your standard array of Gaffrig gauges adorn the helm, while the top- notch Marine Machine throttles and shifters keep your hands happy. Large grab handles are available for most on board, except for the frightened passengers seated in the middle of the bench. The engine compartment is concealed by a padded hatch that’s roomy enough for the ladies to enjoy the sunshine. Our test boat came with the cuddy cabin layout, which has a wide, deep berth and two opposing couches for when you want to escape the sun. Eliminator also offers this boat in a bow rider configuration if you want to bring along more family and friends. If you are a thrill seeker looking to terrorize the lake with some white-knuckle speed runs, the 33 Daytona deserves a long look. Eliminator has combined speed, performance, and sheer hot rod sex appeal all in one package.
