Fast Ride!

The ride provided by the new hull design is one of the driest I’ve experienced.

The FX has good handling capabilities.

With the steeper deep-V hull and integrated bow spray guard you’re sure to find the handling and performance an exhilarating experience.

Large enough to carry three adults.

With the 140-horsepower four-stroke engine there is power to spare. Pulling a skier of any weight out of the water should be a breeze.

An attractive and comfortable ride.

The FX Cruiser is designed with loads of comfort features and advancements.

You'll find good storage aboard this watercraft.

There is also 27 gallons of storage onboard in both the forward cooler that measures 19.8 gallons and under the rear seat.

Comfort ranks high with Yamaha.

Yamaha has taken some of the seat styling from motorcycles, in that they have incorporated a hip support for the rear passenger.

Yamaha FX Cruiser Captain's Report

Test by Capt. Brandon De Natale

Yamaha has just introduced an exciting new concept for their WaveRunner line. The new three person FX Cruiser is designed for families who want the best of everything in one craft, including the best in performance provided by the Yamaha MR-1 four-stroke engine. With the power of 140-horsepower and some very innovative features you should have this vessel on your list of must haves.

The Seat Design

One of the biggest differences that I noticed between this watercraft and others that I have ridden was the increased comfort level. This is provided to not only the driver but to the passengers as well. Yamaha has taken some of the seat styling from motorcycles, in that they have incorporated a hip support for the rear passenger. This not only gives more support and comfort to the aft rider, it also helps the driver by leaving them without tightly wrapped arms around their waists while driving.

The seat is designed in two pieces to provide easy access to both the engine and the rear cooler. Also, the styling is modern and functional. The ride provided by the new hull design is one of the driest I’ve experienced. With the steeper deep-V hull and integrated bow spray guard you’re sure to find the handling and performance an exhilarating experience.

Features

The FX Cruiser is designed with loads of comfort features and advancements. Some of the most noteworthy are right at the helm. The five position tilting handlebar is one feature that helps each driver adjust to their own comfort level and riding style. You can adjust the steering from 55 degrees all the way to 35 degrees. There is also a 5-position trim for the jet that is located on the handlebar. This is a great feature that enables you to adjust for any type of sea condition. You can go from bow up, to the neutral position, and all the way to bow down in a quick twist of the wrist.

The LCD multi-function system display is well situated for easy viewing and provides the operator with read outs on the speed, RPM, fuel level, low fuel warning, low oil pressure, battery voltage, hour meter and more. The new high hip seat also makes for a comfortable ride whether you’re riding alone or have passengers on back. There is also 27 gallons of storage onboard in both the forward cooler that measures 19.8 gallons and under the rear seat. You will have no problem taking everything you need for a whole day on the water with you. The compartments are also waterproof to keep all your belongings such as towels or a change of clothes dry.

The Engine

The power plant is the MR-1, which features 998cc, 140-horsepower of unequaled performance. One of the things that I noticed with the four-stroke engine is that you don’t have the fumes and gas smell associated with traditional two-stroke engines. Even while at idle in calm conditions you can’t notice the exhaust. The FX Cruiser also exceeds Federal EPA 2006 requirements and earned a California C.A.R.B. two-star rating for low emissions. This means you and your family can enjoy the day on the water in peace and quiet.

The All In One Watercraft

For those that are looking for a watercraft to do it all, this is the one. If your idea of the perfect craft is one in which you can head off by yourself and speed around the bay in the morning, and then take the whole family water skiing in the afternoon then look no further. With the 140-horsepower four-stroke engine there is power to spare. Pulling a skier of any weight out of the water should be a breeze. And if you have small children there is no reason why you can’t fit two of them in a tube and tow them along.

So if you’re looking for a watercraft which the entire family can enjoy and will provide you with maintenance free operation, take a closer look at Yamaha’s new FX Cruiser.
