Boat Inspection
Quality construction and attention to detail are the cornerstones at Everglades and is the place where it all begins. Since 1999, when iconic founder Bob Dougherty improved on the foam-filled hull process by molding the structural foam separately, and then building it into the hull, his Rapid Molded Core Assembly Process, RAMCAP as it is commonly referred to, revolutionized the way boats are built. And at Everglades, nothing has changed and has only improved with technology.
Bow
The bow area features lounges, with backrests, to either side. A table can be placed between them for various dining and entertaining opportunities and when the cushions are properly stowed, and the table is lowered, the entire area becomes a casting platform. An 80-gallon fish box, with a macerator, is located in the deck and is easily accessed thanks to a locking hatch between the lounges. Just forward of the console are a pair of seats with large storage compartments beneath.
Helm and Console
To quote Shakespeare, whom, with a great degree of certainty, was not a boater when he penned, “…a rose by any other name is still a rose…”, still, this sentiment could very well be applied to describe the Everglades 315 Center Console when compared to others. To further the point, there’s the company’s artistic and almost poetic approach to its helm area as well.
The center of attraction at the operations console is a pair of 22-inch touchscreens on the boat we inspected where every system aboard is monitored and controlled from here. Just to the right of the wheel is the joystick and control for the optional Seakeeper gyro. Below them are the throttle levers. The eight-button pad to the left of the wheel offers redundant controls with the screen for instance activation. Two induction recharging pads are located here and the drains on top of the helm lead overboard and not into the bilges.
Everglades’ patented forward glass window is controlled electrically and lowers to allow better air flow at the push of a button, and as well, closes the same way. The standard bench seat can be replaced with the optional Release upgrade featuring a pair of teak, ladder-back bolster seats with fore and aft sliders. For those needing a few more inches while driving in the standing position, the Everglades 315 comes with a fold-down platform for better visibility forward. The fiberglass hardtop features a power-coated frame, handholds, four overhead LED lights, four spreader lights, an electronics access hatch, and six rod holders.
The console houses the head compartment and features sink, toilet, teak head cover, holding tank, macerator, lighting, in floor storage with hatch, flooring, retaining rail, teak storage shelf, opening portlight, and a lockable door.
Cockpit, Transom, and Fishing Amenities
When she switches over to fishing action mode, the Everglades 315 is all business and the cockpit layout is where it all happens. With fold-up transom seating freeing up space aft, and the optional twin mezzanine seats in the bolster position, there is plenty of room for moving around while fighting big fish.
For additional room, the standard rigging station takes the place of the mezzanine seats. In the deck are a pair of large insulated, 40 gallon fish boxes and access to the bilge hatch where a well-designed and accessible space awaits.
Along the transom, and to either side, are 25-gallon livewells and there is the requisite under gunwale rod storage in addition to four additional storage compartments, each in its own locking section, in the gunwales as well.
Construction and Hull
While she presents a dynamic exterior and is equipped with all the right stuff for a wide variety of uses while out on the water, the foundation of the Everglades 315 Center Console’s success is the design and engineering that went into her hull shape. From its early beginnings, the company has relied on its innovative and visionary spirit to propel it to the forefront of boat building technology and to that end, her ground breaking and patented RAMCAP® process, enabling pre-molded, high density foam to be precisely fit between the hull and liner, making her virtually unsinkable.
The result of all this technology is a variable deadrise hull shape. Featuring a high deadrise at the bow, which then transitions to a 25-degree deadrise at the transom, resulting in a more comfortable ride when running in adverse sea conditions and at speed.
Observations
The 315 is a premium-quality and premium-priced center console, and probably will not appeal to the average Joe because of the price tag. But, she wasn't built for the average Joe. Doing virtually everything right, which is what Everglades not only tries to do but accomplishes, costs money. The company’s goal is not to produce the most center consoles but to build the best. People who want the best, and can afford it, should seriously consider this boat, which is an excellent choice in our opinion.
Remember, life is better on a boat!
